Autistic friendly Schools

How to offer this kind of service at your school:
Open specially equipped "classes" designed to make stays less stressful for autistic children.
·        Keep up to date information on ASDs for use by staff and parents
·          Have a policy of working with children with ASDs and keep up to date records of staff with ASD training
·        Consult specialist staff e.g. outreach support teams if available in the local authority (LA) when developing policies on ASDs
·          Make sure a named member of staff who knows about ADSs is available to discuss any concerns the child with an ASD may have and help the child to contribute as fully as possible to the development of their provision
·          Ensure the curriculum of the child with an ASD is tailored to meet their needs
·        Provide opportunities for children with an ASD to generalise skills learnt in one setting/lesson to other situations/settings
·        Modify the school environment to take account of the difficulties with sensory stimuli experienced by some children with ASDs
·        Support families by ensuring that out-of-school activities include provision for children with ASDs
·        Develop communications networks between the LA, health and social services departments so that there is a three-way flow of up to date information regarding ASD policy and practice
